New numbers have been released in the past week from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, and our area is faring pretty well. Marshall County remains well below the state’s 8.9 percent unemployment rate for October, according to the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations. Marshall’s October rate is 7.9 percent, Etowah’s is 8.9 percent and DeKalb’s is 10.5 percent. The national unemployment rate hovers around 9 percent. Alabama's unemployment rate has not increased for 9 straight months.
