A preliminary report has been issued on the fatal plane crash in Etowah County earlier this month. On January 20th, North Carolina businessman Tom Coble was killed when his plane went down in a swamp in Rainbow City, just after taking off from Northeast Regional Airport in Gadsden. The National Transportation Safety Board now says the plane hit some trees before it reached the ground. A number of witnesses said they heard explosions and saw flames. The last of the wreckage was removed last Monday and, since then, Gadsden EMA has been monitoring the site to make sure jet fuel isn't flowing into the Coosa River.
