Rape guilty plea

Earlier this year, a Rainsville man was running for DeKalb County Coroner; On Monday he pleaded guilty to the second-degree rape of a pre-teen. 50-year-old Keary Edward Chandler withdrew in February as a candidate for what he said were personal reasons; a week later, he was arrested. DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said a woman claimed that Chandler raped her when she was 12 years old. She says that at the time he was her Sunday school teacher. The alleged crime took place 25 years ago but the sheriff said at the time of Chandler's arrest there is no statute of limitations on rape. He will be sentenced in August.
